Ankle Pain & Sports Injuries
A rolled ankle that still feels “weak” is not finished healing. We restore motion, then retrain balance and cutting so you can trust the next step on ice, turf, or a gym floor.

Sports injuries at Savanna Taradale Wellness Centre often show up at the ankle and foot: inversion sprains, Achilles irritation, and overuse from running or court sports. Returning to play too soon is how the same ankle rolls again. We use clear tests, not just “it feels okay.”
This page explains common patterns we see in clinic. It is not a diagnosis. An in-person assessment tells us what is driving your symptoms and which treatment fits.
What it can feel like
- Pain or swelling after a roll or landing
- Stiffness putting the heel down or going downstairs
- A feeling the ankle will give way on uneven ground
- Achilles or arch pain that warms up then returns
- Trouble pushing off when running or jumping
Why it happens
- Ligament sprain from an inversion roll
- Incomplete rehab after an old sprain
- Tendon overload from a jump in running or sport volume
- Reduced hip or foot control that leaves the ankle unprotected
How we treat it
Early protected movement beats a week on the couch for most sprains. Then we rebuild balance, strength, and sport-specific change of direction.
-
Settle the sprain
Swelling control, protected walking, and early mobility keep the ankle from stiffening in a pointed-down position.
-
Retrain balance
Single-leg control and strength restore the reflexes that stop the next roll.
-
Return to play
Hopping, cutting, and sport drills have criteria. You go back when the ankle earns it.
Services that may be part of your plan
Condition care is not a single modality. Your assessment may include one or more of these services.
Common questions
Do I need a tensor bandage forever?
Compression can help early swelling. Long-term stability comes from strength and balance, not wrapping the ankle every game.
When can I play again after a sprain?
When you can hop, change direction, and land without giving way or swelling the next day. We test that in clinic rather than using a calendar alone.
