Shoulder Pain

Reaching a seatbelt, washing your hair, or pressing overhead should not catch. We sort whether the issue is the rotator cuff, the joint capsule, or the neck referring into the shoulder.

Rotator cuff and overhead motion

Reaching a seatbelt, washing your hair, or pressing overhead should not catch. We sort whether the issue is the rotator cuff, the joint capsule, or the neck referring into the shoulder.

Shoulder pain is one of the most common reasons people book at Savanna Taradale Wellness Centre. It may start as a sharp catch when reaching back, a dull ache at night, or a slow freeze of motion. Sport, trades work, and desk posture all load this joint in different ways.

This page explains common patterns we see in clinic. It is not a diagnosis. An in-person assessment tells us what is driving your symptoms and which treatment fits.

Shoulder Pain care at Savanna Taradale Wellness Centre in NE Calgary

What it can feel like

  • Pain reaching overhead, behind the back, or across the body
  • Night pain when lying on that side
  • Weakness lifting a kettle, bag, or child
  • A catching or grinding feeling
  • Stiffness that is slowly reducing your range

Why it happens

  • Rotator cuff irritation or tendinopathy
  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
  • Overhead sport or repetitive reaching at work
  • Neck referral that mimics a true shoulder problem

How we treat it

We restore glide in the joint, calm irritable tendons, and rebuild the strength you need to lift and reach. If range is truly stuck, we work the capsule patiently rather than forcing it.

  1. Clear the source

A movement exam tells us if this is cuff pain, stiffness, instability, or neck referral.

  2. Free the joint

Hands-on treatment, taping when useful, and specific mobility work reduce the catch and night ache.

  3. Reload with control

Progressive strengthening returns you to sport, lifting, and daily reaching without guarding.

Services that may be part of your plan

Condition care is not a single modality. Your assessment may include one or more of these services.

Common questions

Is it a rotator cuff tear?

Not always. Many shoulders hurt from irritation and load, not a complete tear. We assess strength and motion first and refer for imaging if the story or exam suggests it.

How long does frozen shoulder take?

It can last many months. Treatment still helps you keep usable motion, manage pain, and recover faster than rest alone.
