Hip Pain
Hip pain can hide as groin ache, outer-hip soreness, or stiffness that shows up on stairs. We separate joint, tendon, and low-back referral so treatment is not generic stretching.

People come to Savanna Taradale Wellness Centre with pinching on a squat, pain lying on one side, or a hip that feels older than they are when they walk the neighbourhood. The hip shares load with the back, pelvis, and knee, so we assess the chain, not just the joint crease.
This page explains common patterns we see in clinic. It is not a diagnosis. An in-person assessment tells us what is driving your symptoms and which treatment fits.
What it can feel like
- Groin or front-hip pinch with sitting or squatting
- Outer-hip pain lying on that side
- Stiffness walking after sitting
- Clicking or catching in the front of the hip
- Ache that creeps into the thigh or low back
Why it happens
- Joint irritation and reduced hip glide
- Gluteal tendinopathy or bursitis-type outer-hip pain
- Tightness after sport, sitting, or previous injury
- Referral from the lumbar spine or pelvis
How we treat it
We restore hip motion you actually use — walking, stairs, getting out of a car — then strengthen the glutes and deep rotators so the joint is supported, not just stretched.
-
Map the pain
We test joint motion, tendon load, and lumbar referral so we are not treating the wrong structure.
-
Free the hip
Manual therapy and targeted mobility reduce the pinch and side-lying ache.
-
Reload walking and sport
Strength and gait work return you to hills, gym, and daily walking with less guarding.
Services that may be part of your plan
Condition care is not a single modality. Your assessment may include one or more of these services.
Common questions
Is hip pain arthritis?
Sometimes, especially with morning stiffness and reduced rotation. Many irritable hips still respond well to movement and strength even when imaging shows wear.
Should I stretch it more?
Aggressive stretching can aggravate tendon pain on the outside of the hip. We choose mobility that helps the joint without flaring the tendon.
