Knees complain on stairs, squats, and the first steps after sitting. After surgery, a structured plan is how you get motion, swelling, and strength back in the right order.

Stairs, sport, and surgery recovery

Knees complain on stairs, squats, and the first steps after sitting. After surgery, a structured plan is how you get motion, swelling, and strength back in the right order.

Savanna Taradale Wellness Centre treats runner’s knee, ligament sprains, meniscus irritation, and post-surgical rehab after arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, or joint replacement. The knee often pays for a stiff hip or ankle, so rehab includes the whole leg, not only the joint line.

This page explains common patterns we see in clinic. It is not a diagnosis. An in-person assessment tells us what is driving your symptoms and which treatment fits.

How we treat it

We respect healing timelines after surgery and still keep you moving. For non-surgical pain, we calm the flare then rebuild squat, step, and sport capacity.

  1. Control swelling and motion

Early after injury or surgery we restore extension, reduce puffiness, and keep the knee from getting stiff.

  2. Reload the chain

Hip, quad, and calf strength teach the knee to take load without collapsing inward.

  3. Return to what you do

Stairs, work, running, or sport return in stages with clear criteria, not a guess.

Services that may be part of your plan

Condition care is not a single modality. Your assessment may include one or more of these services.

Common questions

When should I start physio after knee surgery?

Follow your surgeon’s protocol. Many people start within days for swelling and extension. Bring your post-op notes to the first visit.

Can I run with knee pain?

Sometimes with a modified volume. We test strength and landing control first so running does not keep the flare going.
